Governance

The Trust Board (“the Trustees) is responsible for governing the Trust and ensuring all legal and statutory requirements are met. Their role is strategic and by working closely with the Trust’s Executive Team they retain oversight of all strategic issues. The Trustees meet at least six times per year to discuss Trust business and strategically important issues.

Trustees delegate some decisions about local policies and deployment of resources within each academy to a Local Governing Committee (LGC). Each LGC gives strategic level support to the operational leadership of our headteachers and their senior leadership teams. The LGC doesn’t have statutory responsibilities in the way that the governing body in a standalone local authority school has, but it has responsibilities delegated to it by the Trust Board, which are set out in a scheme of delegation. Not having statutory responsibilities allows our LGCs to concentrate even more on the one absolute priority – enhancing the life chances of all children and young people in our schools.

LGCs consist of parents, staff and community governors who are tasked with supporting and challenging the headteacher and school leadership on a range of issues including; pupil performance, financial management and staff wellbeing. Each Local Governing Committee meets four times a year and is chaired by a community governor with the support from a governance professional employed by the Trust.

The Wigan Learning Partnership is a joint Local Governing Committee for Dean Trust Wigan and Dean Trust Rose Bridge, chaired by Mr C Davis. The Governance Professional who supports the LGC is Mrs C Graham-Benson..

Within each Local Governing Committee there are several smaller subcommittees which focus on the following areas; Curriculum & Standards, Finance & Risk, People & Wellbeing, and Performance Management & Pay. Most subcommittees meet three times a year.
